I’ll be eating a lot while I’m there.
I have nothing really to go on as far as French food except that I picture food words in my mind and they end in “x.” This includes “roux.” I’m also thinking a lot about Anthony Bourdain and that book he wrote where he describes his first experience with an oyster. That really resonated with me because I used to hate any nautical food thing and now I’m a whore for oysters. No joke. I sleep with my boyfriend when he buys me oysters, and it might be a coincidence, but there’s really no way to tell.
So anyway, Anthony Bourdain, as a youngster, essentially became Anthony Bourdain while he was in France. He’s all, I hate food, I’m a bratty kid, and then he encounters an old French man with a fishing boat and now he has a Food Network Show and a clever Sardinian spouse who also happens to be smokin’. I am awed and inspired by these inauspicious beginnings.
I will also be drinking a lot of wine.
There was a brief, tragic period in my life where I got instant headaches when I drank red wine. As in, one sip yielded an immediate migraine and vomiting. I considered jumping out a window, but took up beer and other cocktails instead. This has thankfully proven to be a phase, as I can now drink red wine with careless abandon and do. This says nothing of my palate which is actually terrible. I’m hoping I can learn a bit from practice in Bordeaux.
Tickled pink to go on this trip with the Man Friend. Life is good and consumption shall be plentiful. This will be happening in September, so you'll have to wait a bit for the real dirt.
In the meantime, let's talk about Brooklyn.
Stay tuned.
